Success! We finally had enough sun to cook in the solar oven. I made a cake and some cupcakes.

Solar Oven

Today we have sun! There are still some clouds in the sky, but this is the clearest it's been the whole trip. Baring any storm clouds coming in at the last minute we should have hot food in a few hours.

Shopping trip

Today we going shopping for A night in Cameroon. We will be shopping for a variety of items from paintings to jewelry. If any of you have any particulars items you would like to see, leave a comment below.

Back from the village

Hello everyone,

We just got back from the village of Bano. I'm sorry that this is my first update in awhile, but we did not have access to the internet while there. 

I don’t know where to begin in telling all of you how God moved in a very powerful way during our visit. We couldn’t have predicted such a positive reception while trying to bless the villagers and deliver the gospel. We were told that nothing like our visit has ever been seen in the town of Bano.

The mission balls were a complete success, They drew crowds at both Mbankomo and Bano. The children were blessed and we had bible tracks in French for the adults. People asked for more of Jesus in both areas, but the outcry was more heartfelt in Bano. Everyone held on to their books and read them over and over.

I’ve got so much to cover but it’s almost 11 here now, so I’ll type more on Wednesday. 

Friday

Hello everyone,

We had another full day today. I've got some good news. The sun  did come out for a short time today and the solar oven got up to a little over 200 degrees. We didn't get a chance to cook anything because our schedule was too full. We went to another clinic and then went back to Mbankomo where we met with the chief of the village who gave us his blessing to build the orphanage. After the meeting with the chief we did home visits and prayed for many individuals in need. We capped off the day with a visit to the orphanage we visited on Wednesday. We donated supplies for the children at the orphanage and visited with the administrators.

We have an interesting story to share about Bella. She is one of the children that we sponsored during last years Night in Cameroon. She was supposed to go to college (high school) this school year, but her father passed away only a month ago. Her mother has five children that she is now raising on her own. So she hasn't been going to school this semester. Once we found out about her situation we immediately paid for her tuition for this year with money we had on hand.   Bella's family was one of the families that we visited today and we were happy to see Bella come back from her first day of school at college. At her previous school Bella passed the college entrance exam, but was kept back because of a lack of funds. It looked like she would be held back again because of the death of her father, but because she has been sponsored she is able to continue with her schooling.

Solar Oven

We have yet to see a full day of sun this entire visit. We're praying that we will get some sun in the village, so we can try out the oven. I'll let all of you know when we have our first successful test run.

Updates

Hello everyone,

We lost internet access yesterday but today we are back in business. We had two very productive days Wednesday and Thursday. I'll share as much information with all of you that I can. 

On Wednesday we visited the Director and two teachers. After we shared our plans with them they asked if we could come the next day. This would allow them time to plan for the big event. After the school we went to visit the land for the our orphanage and then the clinic in town. Unfortunately we could not tour the facility because they were getting ready to perform surgery on someone just as we arrived. We were told by an individual visiting the clinic himself that we could visit an orphanage nearby if we wanted to. We visited the orphanage and were so moved by the situation there that we decided to bring them food for a special meal on Friday. I'll share more about the orphanage later. After the orphanage we visited the hospital across town instead of the clinic. After the hospital visit we went home for a quick bite to eat and then went to the market to get the supplies for the food distribution. It was a very rewarding experience.    

On Thursday we went to the school first thing in the morning and the children colored their backpacks from the United States. After the coloring project we distributed the backpacks to the children that were first in their respective classes and handed out the tuition money. Then we had the soccer game with the mission ball, but before we played, we explained that this was very special ball in that it shared the gospel of Jesus Christ. After an exciting game Val shared her testimony, her sister read the bible, and Fred explained the significance of the scripture that was read. We then gave out salvation booklets to the parents.
